Miles for Lives

Teignmouth resident Richard Hudson (52) recently completed the Exeter half marathon in support of the Torbay Prostate Support Association (TPSA) raising over £1,185 for the charity. £685 came from friends, family, neighbours and his employer Ground Control Ltd who specialise in Arboriculture, Grounds Maintenance & Construction Works, donated a further £500.

Sadly 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in the UK and every 45 minutes a man in the UK will die of Prostate Cancer. Currently there is no National Screening Programme (unlike that for Breast or Bowel Cancer), with the main test being a simple blood test.

Richard was recently made aware of a Free PSA testing event being run by TPSA in Torbay in June and investigated the work done by TPSA talking to its Chairman Ian Nightingale.

After which he said “I feel this is a particularly worthwhile and if my run, by early detection increase the treatment options available and may very well save a man’s life it is all have been worthwhile.”

He has asked that TPSA use the money to fund a future Free testing event which hopefully can be run later in the year.
