The “finger” isn’t a good test for prostate cancer

A ‘finger up the bum’ isn’t needed to test for prostate cancer.

The British Association of Urological Surgeons agree and are calling for an end to the routine use of the digital rectal examination.

The first test is a simple blood test you can get free from your GP.

Our Assistant Director of Health Improvement, Amy Rylance, said: “Even though experts agree it’s a poor test that should now be consigned to history, the spectre of the rectal exam is still making men think twice about going to their GP.”
