Supporters’ Meeting Livermead House Hotel 25th February

Supporters’ Meeting Livermead House Hotel 25th February

It was a wonderful turnout of nearly 50 members and supporters this morning at the Livermead House Hotel, when we gathered to listen to a presentation by Ana Juett, Programme Manager of the Genomic Medicine Service Alliance. Ana was joined by Dr Ruth Cleaver, a Clinical Genetics Consultant and also Cancer Medical Lead for the SW Genomics.

Todays talk was about Genomic medicine: ‘What is it? How does it work? How is it used, and its value in screening / diagnosing cancer?

It was certainly enlightening and very interesting, especially when they talked about family history and cancer. I imagine a few people may be contacting their local GP to arrange referrals to the Family History Team, to see whether their case meets the threshold for further investigation.

There was a request for attendees to consider getting involved with the Patient Community Forum, where patients can have a public voice. As a bonus for going to the forum, you may get a chance to look around the laboratory?

As ever, thank you to everyone who attended, especially to Ana and Ruth for taking time out of their busy schedules to present.

We look forward to seeing you all at our next meeting at the Paignton Club on Wednesday 25th March.
