Breaking News: Proof that Screening Will Save Lives and Deliver Socio-Economic Benefits

Below is the content of an email our Chairman, Ian Nightingale received today from David James, head of Patient Projects at Prostate Cancer Research.

Dear Ian

I wanted you to be the first to know.

Earlier today we spoke to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Wes Streeting, dozens of MPs and hundreds of distinguished guests at a cross-party event at the House of Commons.

The incredible line up of speakers at out cross party event.

From left to right, patient rep, Aidan, Rt Hon. James Cleverly MP, Rt Hon. David Lammy MP, Josh Babarinde MP, PCR CEO Oliver Kemp and Sir Steve McQueen.

We shared our landmark report that shows not only that a targeted screening programme for high risk groups will save lives but is cost effective too.

What is more we demonstrated how we might get to a universal screening programme for all men that will not only deliver significant socioeconomic benefits for the UK but is based on promising tests already in existence.

Everyone who signed the petition, wrote to their MP and shared our message has helped to get us here today. Thank you so much.

However, we need to go even further and demand that our report is listened to and acted upon.

We have three key recommendations from the report:
  1. Introduce targeted prostate cancer screening for high-risk groups now.
  2. Trial promising diagnostic tests in clinical practice so we can get to universal screening much sooner.
  3. Adopt key AI technologies to deliver better patients outcomes and drive efficiencies.

I’ll be in touch with how we can all rally together to do this in the coming weeks.

For now, I want to give my sincerest thanks for your continued support of our screening campaign.

With my sincere thanks,

David James
