11 Sep Next Supporters’ Meeting Tuesday 23rd September

Our next meeting is being held on TUESDAY 23 September at the Livermead House Hotel at 10 o’clock for a 10.30 start. We are extremely lucky to be welcoming Miss Elizabeth Waine, who is a consultant urology surgeon at the RD and E, and a leading researcher and exponent of robotic assisted surgery. We have not had a surgeon speak to the Group for about 3 years. Miss Waine will explain her area of expertise, and discuss a little about options for a patient when he receives his diagnosis, including some thoughts on why some patients may be better suited for surgery, and options for the patient within the scope of that surgery. She will include a section about recovery and rehabilitation, highlighting potential side effects, including some statistics to balance optimism with realism, and touch on advances in the field of laparoscopic surgery and likely future innovations in the surgical field. Miss Waine will be supported throughout by Gill Dell (CNS), who is well known to us, and has suggested that we might like to include some thoughts in our discussion that touch on prostate cancer within the gay community.
