Having clear, reliable information about how prostate cancer is diagnosed and the treatments available can help you feel more informed and better prepared to make decisions with your healthcare team.

This video series provides an introduction to the prostate cancer pathway in the UK, from initial investigations through to treatment and follow-up care. It explains the tests that may be used when prostate cancer is suspected, including the PSA blood test, digital rectal examination (DRE), MRI scans, and prostate biopsies. It also describes how doctors use this information to understand the type and extent of a cancer and recommend the most appropriate treatment options.

Treatment for prostate cancer is highly individual and depends on a number of factors, including the stage and grade of the cancer, your age, general health, and personal preferences. Options may include active surveillance, surgery, radiotherapy, hormone therapy, chemotherapy, and other newer treatments such as focal therapy. Some men may not need immediate treatment and may instead be monitored carefully by their healthcare team.
